“If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but closes his eyes to his need—how can God’s love reside in him? Little children, we must not love with word or speech, but with truth and action.”

Love in Motion is a ministry of Monadnock Bible Conference and we have been in Haiti since 1983.  Our ministries are mercy and compassion based, but do not diminish or lack the power of the gospel.  At Love in Motion, we see it as counterintuitive and disingenuous to see a brother or sister in need and say, “Go, I wish you well. Keep warm and well fed” and yet do nothing about it. The Haitians have a proverb, “sak vid pa kanpe.” This translates to “an empty sack doesn’t stand up,” meaning a hungry person can’t do anything. This person is so overwhelmed by their condition that words are seldom heard, but actions are understood.  As we meet physical needs of hunger, thirst, nakedness and sickness,we have the opportunity to speak to their spiritual needs in Jesus’ name.

The majority of our efforts are focused on: building schools and orphanages, medical clinics, food and water distribution, and child sponsorship. Some of these are initiatives that Haitians could not provide or would have a difficult time providing, like medical clinics and food distribution.  Others are done side by side, encouraging our Haitian brothers and sisters to take part in the project.  Both have proven to be effective in meeting immediate physical needs and sharing the gospel.  It is our goal to proclaim the name of Jesus in all we do, and pray our efforts to take care of “the least of these” is honoring to the Father and advances His Kingdom.
